Consumer Prices Rise 0.3% in April 2022

On May 11, 2022, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the Consumer Price Index repot for April 2022. The All-Urban Index rose 0.3% in April, following a 1.2% increase in March. Over the last 12 months, the Index has risen 8.3%. The 12-month figure for March was 8.5%. The monthly increase was the smallest since the 0.3% rise in August 2021.
The Core Index, excluding food and energy, rose 0.6% in April, after a 0.3% advance in March. The Core Index has increased 6.2% in the latest 12-month period. The Energy Index rose 30.3% over the past year, and the Food Index increased by 9.4%, the largest year-over-year increase since April 1981. In April 2021, a year ago, the Core Index year-over-year increase was just 3.0%.
The next CPI Report will be issued on June 10, 2022.
