U. S. Consumer Prices Rose 0.2% in September 2024

On October 10, 2024, the Bureau of Labor Statistics issued its Consumer Price report for September. The CPI rose 0.2% in September, the same increase as in August and July. Over the past 12 months, the CPI increased by 2.4%, the smallest 12-month increase since February 2021.

The Core Index, excluding food and energy rose 0.3% in September as it did in the prior month. Over the past 12 months, the Core Index rose by 3.3%. The Energy Index decreased 6.8% over the past year while the Food Index increased 2.3% over that period.

The next CPI Report will be issued om November 13, 2024.
