On October 4, 2024, the Bureau of Labor Statistics issued its Employment Report for September 2024. The economy added 254,000 jobs in September, well above the monthly average of 202,000 over the previous 12 months. The unemployment rate was 4.1%, unchanged from the prior month. The rate one year ago was 3.8%.
Average payroll earnings hourly rate rose by $0.13 to $35.36, up 4.0% from a year ago.
The employment figures were revised upwards by 72,000 from the previous July and August reports.
The next Employment Report will be issued on November 1, 2024.
