Consumer Price Index for 2021 Increases at Highest Rate Since 1982

On December 10, 2021, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released consumer price information for the month of November. The CPI increased by 0.8% in November, following an increase of 0.9% in October. The month with the smallest 2021 CPI increase was August with a rate of 0.3%. The price index rose by 6.8% over the 12 months ending in November, the highest annual increase since 1982.
The Core rate, excluding food and energy, rose 0.5% in November, after an increase of 0.6% in October. The Core index rose by 4.9% over the past 12 months which is the largest increase for that index in the past 13 years. Over the past 12 months, the energy index has risen by 33.3% and the food index has increased by 6.1%.

The CPI data for December 2021 will be released on January 12, 2022.
