Consumer Price Index Rose Sharply in June 2021

On July 13, 2021, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced the consumer price index data for the month of June. The Index rose by 0.9% in June after rising by 0.6% in May. The increase was the largest one-month change since June 2008 when the Index increased by 1.0%. Over the last 12 months, the Index increased by 5.4%, the largest 12-month increase since the 5.4% increase ending in August 2008.
The Core rate, excluding food and energy, rose 0.9% in June after an increase of 0.7% in May. The Core Index rose 4.5% over the last 12 months, the largest 12-month increase since the period ending November 1991.
The next CPI report will be issued August 11, 2021 for the month of July.
