On October 24, 2025, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released CPI data for September and noted that the data survey and collection effort was completed before the Federal “shutdown” took effect. The September increase was 0.3%, down from 0.4% in August. Over the past 12 months, the CPI rose 3.0%, up from 2.9% in August.
The Core Index, excluding food and energy, rose 0.2%, down from 0.3% in each of the two prior months. The Core Index rose 3.0% in the past 12 months. Over the past 12 months, Energy prices rose 2.8% while Food prices increased by 3.1%.
