May CPI Increased 0.5%

On June 10, 2026, the Bureau of Labor Statistics issued its Consumer Price Index Report for May.  The CPI rose 0.5% in May, after an increase of 0.6% in the prior month.  The year-over-year increase was 4.2%.

The Core Index, excluding food and energy, rose by 0.2% in May and by 2.9% from the prior year.

Energy prices increased 23.5% from the prior year while the Food Index rose by 3.1% over that period.

The next CPI Report will be issued on July 14, 2026.
