On January 13, 2022, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced Producer Price Index data for December 2021. The monthly increase was only 0.2%, following increases of 1.0% in November and 0.6% in October. The rate of increase for the full year, however, was 9.7%, the highest figure since that calculation was introduced in 2010.
The Core Index, excluding food and energy, rose 6.9% in 2021, well above the rise of 1.3% in 2020. The full-year increase of 6.9% is the highest 12-months figure in several years.
The next Producer Price Index release is scheduled for February 15, 2022.
