U. S. Consumer Prices Rose 0.6% in April 2026

On May 12, 2026, the Bureau of Labor Statistics issued its CPI Report for April 2026. The CPI rose by 0.6% in the month, following an increase of 0.9% in March. The CPI increased by 3.8% from the prior year, compared to 3.3% in March.
The Core Index, excluding food and energy, rose 0.4% in April and by 2.8% from a year ago. In March, the year-over-year rate was 2.6%.
Energy prices increased by 17.9% from a year ago while the Food Index rose by 3.2% over that period.
The next CPI Report will be issued on June 10, 2026.
